Wikipedia is the 5th most visited website in the world. But did you know that only 17% of wikipedia’s bios were about women? Part of the reason is simple: more than 80% of Wikipedia contributors are...men.

Take an example: the computer programmers category lists 180 profiles, of whom fewer than 10 are women. But history hasn’t been documented well: a lot of women have contributed to shaping the internet as we know it today.

On 13 October 2018, BeCentral will be hosting a full day edit-a-thon to document wikipedia with Women in Technology.

Are they any requirements to attend the event?

Absolutely not!

Most of us never edited wikipedia before so we will take you through all the steps. You don’t need experience, nor knowledge on the theme.

What will you do?

You will be able to help in a few different ways:

  • Write new articles

  • Help with research

  • Fact-check existing articles

  • Add citations or content to existing articles

When does the event take place?

On Saturday 13 October 2018 at BeCentral, 10 Cantersteen 1000 Brussels.

What's the schedule?

9h30 – 10h00: Registrations

10h00 -11h00: Tutorial on how to edit wikipedia

10h30 - 12h30: Documenting

Lunch Break

13h30 - 16h30: Documenting

16h30 - 18h00 : Closing session and networking drinks.
