Begins with an introduction to the application of COGNITIVE
BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT), followed by a specific focus on its use in
treatment for depression and anxiety.A highly interactive and
practical course and all participants will be given time to explore
and implement the skills taught.
Includes consideration of various pitfalls or difficulties in this
work and a look at cases we find difficult to treat or complex.
SCHEDULE:
* Saturday 25th - Sunday 26th September 10am - 4pm
* Saturday 16th - Sunday 17th October 10am - 4pm
* Saturday 20th - 21st Sunday November 10am - 4pm
KEY FEATURES:
The first weekend will be a thorough introduction to and critical
exploration of CBT. This will include looking at the key therapeutic
principles underlying CBT, the application of CBT with clients and an
exploration into the Socratic Method (a cornerstone technique within
CBT). We will also consider why CBT has become more popular in recent
years, when and how should it be used and when its use is
contraindicated.
The second weekend will look at how to apply these underlying
principles in greater depth with a specific focus upon how to treat
clients who present with symptoms of depression. Key ideas in the
treatment of depression such as behavioural activation and cognitive
reframing will be explored. Various techniques and skills for
treatment will be demonstrated. More advanced CBT concepts such as
Core Beliefs and Intermediate Beliefs will be explored.
The final weekend will continue to build upon the prior 2 weekends
learning and will focus on the use of CBT for various anxiety
disorders such as social anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, generalised
anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, etc. We will explore
the key differences between these different types of anxiety and
discuss the ways in which CBT can be applied accordingly.
