The workshop by Donghwan Kam is linked to his work After Photography, that is part of the exhibition The New Newsroom. In After Photography, Donghwan Kam renders iconic news images in 3D and then walks around with his VR headset and a hacked digital camera to take his own photos of the scene. Thereby, he breaks through the numbness of yet another picture of human suffering to create a personal relationship with the events.
The workshop will be in two parts. The first part is a presentation describing the project. Kam will talk about the background in which he started the project and the points of significance in the process. In the second part of the workshop, you will actually experience virtual journalism. You will access in two different borders that are depicted in Virtual Reality. The first place is the border between Turkey and Syria, and the second place is the Trapani port of Sicily, where refugees arrive by boat. You will be taking pictures in the virtual space. After shooting, you can edit the photos you have taken, upload them to your SNS, or save them on a USB sticks.
If you want to take your edited pictures home, bring a USB stick.
