LIGHT BOX PERFORMANCE is a performing arts venue upholding the transformative power of art to enliven and build community, strengthen and amplify voices and foster socio-political justice. An artist-run space Light Box is a critical venue for artistic expression and community gathering in Detroit, dedicated to experimentation and education within the broadest, most inclusive definition of ‘performance.’ Its members and collaborators champion the life-giving qualities of art and performance in their own rights, as well as the healing and liberating potentials of art-making. We believe in the transformative power of art to enliven and build community, to strengthen and amplify individual voices and to foster socio-political justice. By housing multiple artists and projects in a Detroit neighborhood with deep historical and cultural roots, Light Box supports cross-pollination and collaboration, nurturing artistic experimentation & cultural expression by and among diverse communities. The space offers residencies, public showings, workshops, and social forums; incubating and presenting artistic work and programs that challenge, illuminate, and inspire.
