ABOUT THE MOVIE

Friday the 13th is a 1980 American slasher film produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham, and written by Victor Miller. It stars Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Mark Nelson, Jeannine Taylor, Robbi Morgan, and Kevin Bacon. The film tells the story of a group of teenage camp counselors who are murdered one by one by an unknown killer while attempting to re-open an abandoned summer camp.

Released on May 9, 1980, Friday the 13th was a major box office success, grossing over $39.7 million in the United States alone and $20 million international, making it the highest-grossing film in the franchise in adjusted dollars. Aside from being the first independent film of its kind to secure distribution in the U.S. by a major studio, its box office success led to a long series of sequels, a crossover with A Nightmare on Elm Street, and a 2009 series reboot.

Every year for the past decade, thousands of movie fans make the annual pilgrimage to visit various movie locations throughout Blairstown, Hope, and Hardwick New Jersey, which have remained relatively unchanged since the movie was filmed in 1979. The economic tourism boost is unprecedented, desperately needed, and kindly welcomed by the majority of the small businesses and non-profit organizations that exist within those communities.

HIS NAME WAS JASON FUNDRAISER

His Name Was Jason is a short film based on Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th Franchise and takes place between Part 1 and Part 2. The movie explores the story of 3 lifelong high school friends - all avid deer hunters - and their ill-fated decision to venture into the foreboding area of Camp Crystal Lake to track and hunt a prized Buck that has eluded hunters for many years. As fast it begins they quickly realize that the hunters have become the hunted and that there is truth behind the Camp Blood stories. The legend that lurks at Camp Crystal Lake is alive and well. The film also tells Jason's story, his life in solitude as he forges and scavenges to survive. Jason is constantly tormented by his mother’s voice and her words to guard and protect the camp ground including the surrounding lake. It’s all he’s ever known and is the closest place to a home he'll ever have.

BLAIRSTOWN MUSEUM FUNDRAISING

Since 2015, the Blairstown Museum has become a cultural anchor in the community. We continue to be a trailblazer in our approach to community engagement and in recognizing our role in preserving and showcasing those aspects which define our community on many levels. To that end, we produce and/or manage over 50 distinct exhibitions; as well as manage and/or actively engage in over 100 community events and programs every year. Unlike other historic organizations and groups, the Blairstown Museum is not affiliated with any government entity. Residents and visitors do not incur any additional taxes to fund our operations. Our offerings are made available solely by the generosity of our board members, volunteers, museum members, donors, visitors, souvenir shop customers, community partners and corporate sponsors.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated directly to our organization and enable us to expand our offerings, including our new Friday the 13th Museum, located at 27 Main Street in Blairstown, New Jersey. From the bottom of our volunteer hearts, we thank you for helping us raise these very desperately needed funds!
