GETTING THE WORD OUT AND GETTING YOUR MESSAGE ACROSSCalled knowledge
transfer, knowledge exchange and now engagement, the ability to
communicate with audiences outside the academy is now a crucial part
of the life of any successful academic. Put simply: we are all looking
to have ‘impact’. This workshop will look at how to generate
public interest in your work and become what the media refer to as
‘good talent.’ This workshop supports the ANU 3 Minute Thesis and
Visualise Your Thesis competition.
By the end of this workshop you will:
* Be able to ‘mine’ your work for good stories
* Identify possible audiences for these stories
* Know how to ‘sell’ your stories and deal successfully with the
media
This workshop will be presented by Simon Clews
[https://simonclews.com/the-back-story/] from the University of
Melbourne, author of _The New Academic_ (coming from NewSouth books in
September this year), who has spent the last decade and a half
encouraging, motivating and training academics to engage with the
world beyond the academy.
