Cheap Fake 001 is the first instalment in a monthly party collective
founded by Sydney artists Buzz Kull & Jbepi. Expect nothing less than
debauched, sweat soaked aural delicacies. Cheap Fake was born out of a
much needed home for late night authentic live performance and dance.
We are excited to announce our first lineup featuring Zanias
performing live in Sydney for the first time since 2017. The voice of
Linea Aspera, Zanias is a solo performer, DJ and producer, co-founder
of Berlin's Fleisch collective and now runs the label of the same
name. For a decade Zanias has existed as the unrepentant creative
venture of Alison Lewis, born in Australia, raised in Southeast Asia,
and also known for her vocal work with Linea Aspera, Keluar and a
record shelf’s worth of collaborations with the likes of Black Rain,
Ancient Methods, Dax J and I Hate Models. Through her solo project she
has developed a fiercely independent production style of instantly
recognisable ethereal otherness and charisma, sampling her voice and
the sounds of nature into melodic and spherical synthetic soundscapes
with heavy rhythmic components. According to Alice Teeple of
Post-Punk.com, “her creations are more than mere compositions; they
are a tribute to the intricate interplay of human experiences, brought
to light through her exploration of sound and emotion”. Her latest
albums ‘Chrysalis’ (2023) and ‘Ecdysis’ (2024), were released
on Fleisch and Metropolis Records, and formed a two-part journey of
metamorphosis traversing the genre boundaries of darkwave, ambient and
alternative pop. Joining her on the lineup is local Kidskin, a one
woman conductor of experimental 80’s electro synth beats. Peppered
with feverish feminine vocals and a solemn blending of sounds subdued
in big-bellied bass and melodic synthetic tapestries. Combining voice,
dance, synth & macbook relic in tandem , she explores organic
composition and layered sampling as an indebted homage to the sounds
of artists before her that have inspired and created KS’s taste. We
acknowledge that this event is held on the stolen lands of the Gadigal
people of the Eora Nation. We pay our respects to Elders, past,
present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
