LAB RATS x FRAZ THE WIZARD: Digital Alchemy in the 3rd Dimension [Workshop]

Welcome to LAB RATS! ILA is excited to announce our 2025 series of hands-on WORKSHOPS WITH A FOCUS ON CREATIVE TECH, shared learning and interdisciplinary collaboration. ------------------------------- Presented over 4 weeks by multidisciplinary creative artist Fraz The WIZARD - this WORKSHOP SERIES ACTS AS A HANDS-on introduction to 3D design software Blender as a creative tool for artists and makers, embracing a DIY spirit inspired by artists like Ian Hubert and more.  Over four weeks, participants will learn Blender’s fundamentals - interface, modelling, and texturing - while exploring fast, fun, and unconventional techniques. We’ll capture real-world photos to create textures and model from them, then dive into animation and collaborative experiments in a playful learning space.  Whether for artistic expression or practical visualisation - products, environments, stages - this WORKSHOP EQUIPS YOU WITH THE SKILLS TO BRING IDEAS TO LIFE. No experience needed - just curiosity and a willingness to explore!!  ------------------------------- ***Week 1 [Tues, July 29th]:  Getting to know the DIGITAL CANVAS:  Explore Blender's interface, key tools, and learn basic navigation and UI setup. -   ***Week 2 [Tues, August 5th]:  From Pixels to Poly:  Go on a photo excursion to capture textures. Apply textures in Blender to creative 3D work.  -   ***Week 3 [Tues, August 12th]:  Lights, Camera, Render!:  Explore lighting techniques to bring your scene to life. Explore rendering workflows to output your models and scenes.  -   ***Week 4 [Tues, August 19th]:  Animating the Impossible:  Learn animation basics: keyframes, movement and more. With a background spanning film, parkour, software development, and AV technology, his work explores the intersection of DIGITAL ART, interactivity, and real-time experiences.  Fraz's expertise includes video production, traditional and web-based 3D technologies, game level design, live installations, and experimental tech, including AI and surveillance-based art. A dedicated educator and researcher, Fraz thrives on making complex DIGITAL TOOLS ACCESSIBLE, empowering others to harness technology for creative expression.
