ADELAIDE JAZZ FEST - Lynchian Art-Jazz by Djawbreaker

Prepare for a night of mesmerising soundscapes and dark cinematic magic as the Adelaide Jazz Festival presents Lynchian Art-Jazz by Djawbreaker with visuals by Ryan Sahb.

Known for his unforgettable use of music and sound in film and television, David Lynch’s haunting, twisted worlds will come alive as Kaurna Yerta jazz-rock group Djawbreaker takes you on a sonic journey deep into the eerie and the sublime, paired with accompanying visuals by Ryan Sahb across The Lab’s 50sqm of LED screens.
Djawbreaker made a strong debut on the Adelaide scene in 2021, quickly earning praise as an exciting new sonic force. What began as four jazz improvisers collaborating on lead vocalist Chelsea Lee’s 2019 jazz-rock album Fargo, gradually evolved into Djawbreaker—an ever-changing identity blending gritty, experimental jazz-rock.
Djawbreaker will perform new and original music built from the world of the late artistic visionary, David Lynch. This dark, cinematic project leans towards the future of experimental jazz, by further stretching the boundaries that jazz plays in the creative field today. Featuring:

Digital art by Ryan Sahb

Ryan has worked with local legends like The Empty Threats, Twine and Adam Page; plus acts from further afield like Ty Segall, Quivers, Kirin J Callinan and Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice. His work has received the SA Music Award for Best Music Video and Rage’s “Wild One” feature spot. Ryan’s digital artwork incorporates various elements of video feedback, synthesis, and bent composite signals, with an elaborate signal chain of modified analogue and digital equipment that ranges from three to thirty years old.

ADELAIDE JAZZ FESTIVAL:

Now entering its third year, the Adelaide Jazz Festival (AJF) celebrates the world-renowned art form of jazz and showcases the abundance of jazz talent here in South Australia. It’s Adelaide’s 10th anniversary as a UNESCO City of Music this year and the AJF marks this milestone with an extended program from 24 April until 2 May, including International Jazz Day.

The AJF again presents a curated program of live performances; and has also invited the organisations and venues that regularly support live jazz in Adelaide to join this year’s program. The AJF2025 is supported by the City of Adelaide and the Government of South Australia’s Music Development Office.
