The MedTech’s Got Talent startup bootcamp is an introduction to
commercialisation of new medical and health technologies for emerging
entrepreneurs from research, clinical, higher education, professional
and other backgrounds. In a fun and supportive half-day of workshops,
presentations and discussions with industry experts, you’ll learn
about key areas such as intellectual property, market positioning,
capital raising and the art of pitching. Whether you’re at proof of
concept stage with tested assumptions and early stage tech, looking to
advance your innovation, or ideating for new innovations, this
bootcamp will put the commercialisation roadmap at your fingertips for
success. The bootcamp will also help to position you for success in
the MedTech’s Got Talent competition - Australia’s largest medical
and health technology entrepreneurship challenge - and our
market-driven, industry-led Accelerator program for MedTech and
HealthTech startups. Wrapping up at 12.30pm, the bootcamp will be
followed by lunch and a chance to meet other emerging MedTech and
HealthTech entrepreneurs and industry experts. -- Entrepreneur Couch
Chat Dr Brad Walsh, CEO Minomic International Dr Brad Walsh is Chief
Executive Officer and a Director of Minomic International Ltd, a
Sydney-based biotechnology company specialising in
immuno-oncology. He founded Minomic to bring to market an innovative
biomarker for prostate cancer. Dr Walsh has led Minomic’s
scientific and business development, raising A$26 million and bringing
the company to a point at which its first major product, MiCheck®,
has progressed through a series of clinical trials in preparation for
release to the US market in 2019. Dr Walsh has also developed a
pipeline of potential new therapeutics and diagnostics for prostate,
bladder, pancreatic and esophageal cancer. Dr Walsh’s career in
biotechnology began with a PhD in protein chemistry. Over the
following years he led research groups in government agencies,
universities and hospitals and was a key part of the establishment of
a major national research facility, APAF, before forming Minomic in
2007. He continues to be active in research collaborations and
academic supervision and was a joint recipient of one of Australia’s
most prestigious science awards, a Eureka Prize, for Interdisciplinary
Research in 2015. More recently Dr Walsh won first prize against a
field of international competitors at the 2018 Innovation &
Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas High-Level Talents in
Hangzhou, China. He has co-authored 90 peer reviewed papers and book
chapters and six patents. He is also a mentor for the IMNIS Program
and is the deputy chairman of the NSW AusBiotech committee. Anna
Wright, CEO Bindi Maps Anna Wright is the CEO and Founder of BindiMaps
- a navigation app revolutionising the way we navigate indoors
spaces. Launched in January 2017, BindiMaps is an award-winning smart
cities technology startup, bringing accessibility to people and places
currently out of bounds for people who are vision impaired. Anna
developed the idea for BindiMaps after undergoing years of major
surgery to save her own eye-sight - a daunting experience that led her
to ask the question "how can we make the world more accessible for
people with vision impairment?". Today, her startup has grown to a
team of five full-time employees, opened the doors to their own office
in Surry Hills, and closed a $1M seed financing round. Prior to
launching BindiMaps, Anna had helped many other businesses move from
startup through to IPO, as a consultant specialising in Business
Development and Business Analysis. She holds a PhD and has built an
academic career as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Technology
Sydney, researching and teaching in the areas of Innovation and
Valuation. Less than two years since launching BindiMaps, Anna is now
is a recognised leader in the startup ecosystem, lighting a path for
non-technical founders to start and build tech companies that can
change the world. It is her passion for impact that has seen Anna
nominated for 2019 Australian of the Year, in recognition of her
leadership and commitment to creating a more inclusive world through
BindiMaps. Anna has also been listed as one of the top 10 Australian
Entrepreneurs to watch in 2019. Hugo Rourke, CEO Perx Hugo is one of
the founders of Perx Health. After seeing a lack of motivation affect
his own family members in day-to-day health management, Hugo founded
Perx to apply best-of-breed tactics from other consumer industries to
reach out to patients and engage them to form good habits. In just a
couple of years, Perx has grown from an idea to a commercialised
digital health intervention with programs live across public health,
insurance and pharmaceutical sectors. At Perx he works with enterprise
customers to understand their pain-points and adapt the Perx
motivation platform to their needs. Prior to founding Perx, Hugo was
an Associate at McKinsey & Company, where he provided business
strategy advice to enterprise clients, focusing on consumer tactics
including promotions, loyalty, and gaming to drive engagement and
business outcomes. Fundraising Panelists Rebecca Watts, Venture
Analyst Right Click Capital Rebecca is on the investment team at Right
Click Capital, a venture capital firm backing courageous founders
looking to change the world. Right Click Capital is one of the most
active venture capital firms in Australia, investing in high-growth,
technology-based businesses. Rebecca has a background in management
consulting and humanitarian engineering and is passionate about women
in STEM. Steven Maarbani, CEO VentureCrowd Steven is corporate
lawyer and former PwC partner specialising in Venture Capital &
Private Equity. He was involved in the establishment of many of
Australia's leading venture capital funds (including corporate venture
capital funds) as well as Australia's first equity crowdfunding
platform, VentureCrowd. Steven is also a Partner and member of the
Innovation Advisory Council of the Real Tech Ventures Fund, and sits
on the Advisory Board of a number of high-growth companies.
Steven is regularly called upon to provide specialist assistance in
relation to capital raising, fund establishment and operation, the
Early Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership program, crowdfunding
and the funding and commercialisation of technology companies. Natasha
Rawlings, Investment Manager Uniseed Natasha Rawlings joined Uniseed
as an Investment Manager in Sydney. Natasha is a tech entrepreneur
who has led, founded and mentored early and mid-stage tech start-ups,
with a particular focus on creating revenue through sales and
marketing. Prior to this, Natasha had a successful career as a
marketer holding top management positions in Australian and UK
companies. Natasha brings her strong commercial acumen to the Uniseed
team, where she has rich experience in new product development and
building revenues through new routes to market. Natasha’s previous
roles include CEO and Founder of StreetHawk, a mobile relationship
management platform, and CEO of Heads Over Heels – an organisation
that helps women entrepreneurs with scalable businesses grow.
Natasha’s corporate experience includes Marketing Director of
International Masters Publishers (publishing) and Guthy-Renker
(cosmetics and fitness), and as a Senior Manager in corporate
innovation and new revenue streams at News Corporation in the
UK. Natasha holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of
Technology, Sydney and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of
Company Directors. This bootcamp is delivered by the MedTech Actuator
