at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability for FREE wellbeing
classes every Wednesday morning from September 25th to April 1st 2020.
Classes run from 7am to 7:45, are free to all local residents and are
suitable for all levels of experience, from absolute beginners up.
This wellness series is provided by North Sydney Council.
WHAT IS LAUGHTER YOGA?
LAUGHTER YOGA IS A UNIQUE GROUP EXERCISE PROGRAMME BASED ON THE FACT
THAT ANYONE CAN LAUGH FOR NO REASON. Jokes, comedy and a sense of
humour are not required. The leader introduces the LAUGHTER EXERCISES
AS A PHYSICAL EXERCISE, with eye contact and playfulness the LAUGHTER
BECOMES REAL AND CONTAGIOUS. It is called LAUGHTER YOGA AS THE
SESSIONS COMBINE LAUGHTER EXERCISES WITH YOGIC BREATHING (pranayamas).
When we laugh we exhale more air from our lungs than in normal
activity and are therefore able to exhale stale air which we usually
hold in the lower lobes of the lungs. To take advantage of this we use
the yoga breathing techniques to fill the lungs with fresh air.
A LAUGHTER YOGA SESSION INCLUDES: a gentle warm-up (which involves a
physical warm-up, voice warm-up, and some clapping); LAUGHTER
EXERCISES; breathing exercises; a LAUGHTER MEDITATION AND ENDS WITH A
GUIDED RELAXATION (yoga nidra).
PARTICIPANTS NEED TO WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND BRING A WATER
BOTTLE. BRINGING A YOGA MAT IS OPTIONAL.
PLEASE ARRIVE 5 MINS EARLY AS CLASSES WILL COMMENCE AT 7AM SHARP.
Getting to the class is easy; just a 6-minute, level-walk from
Waverton Station or you can utilise the free, 4-hour parking on Balls
Head Road.
