Working Ethically in Counselling and Psychotherapy How to proactively
protect your clients and practice. As counsellors and
psychotherapists, it is easy to go the extra mile to support our
clients. This innate drive to help, especially within the context of
an established therapeutic relationship, can inadvertently expose our
clients and our practice to risks. Counsellors and psychotherapists
can encounter challenging situations where third parties like family
members, regulatory agencies, and the law are involved. Working to an
ethics framework can help us make transparent, responsible, and
effective decisions; decisions that account for the wellbeing of all
parties. An ethics framework frees us to focus on doing what we do
best. This full day professional training workshop will equip you with
the background understanding, practical know-how, and industry-proven
tools to set up and maintain a protective ethics framework for your
counselling and psychotherapy practice. During this workshop, you
will: Examine the key elements of ethics in counselling &
pscyhotherapy and the various relevant ethical codes. Review
real-world ethical scenarios, dilemmas, and resolutions in group
exercises. Learn and practise the stages of ethical decision making.
On completion of this workshop, you will: Understand the ethical
issues, principles, moral debates, and legal responsibilities of
professional practice. Understand concepts and techniques around
confidentiality, dual and multiple roles, and risk assessments.
