Disability Rights at the United Nations

Rosemary Kayess in conversation with Professor Louise Chappell

Part of the Disability Innovation Institute UNSW Research Seminar Series and the Australian Human Rights Institute Associates 'Human Rights Connect' series.

In 2018, Rosemary Kayess was appointed as a vice chair of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities.

Please join us for this conversation with Rosemary, who will give an insider’s view of the Committee’s workings and the challenges that all nations share in protecting the rights of people with disabilities.

Rosemary will also reflect on how Australia is increasing the awareness of these rights, and its progress on ensuring people with disabilities can participate fully in society.

This talk will also explore what more can be done at UNSW Sydney, including through the world-first Disability Innovation Institute (DIIU), and how we can all shift our view of disability from a “deficit approach” to a “diversity approach”.
