In this EXHIBITION ‘Time Out’, Barbara Aroney paints and draws the
serviceable cups and silver cutlery of restaurants of the 1940s and
50s starting with those from her father-in-law’s Aroney’s Fish
Restaurant in Tamworth. The paintings evoke the ‘time out’ of
morning teas and café meals that once punctuated a heavy working day,
and is a comforting reminder of how food and drink can shape and
celebrate our days.
Barbara Aroney’s subjects include interiors of woolsheds and coastal
landscapes. She has won the major prize at Frost Over Barbara Arts
Festival and prizes at The Art of Sydney and the Drummoyne Art Society
exhibitions. Her work is in collections of the State Library NSW,
National Library and collections in Australia and overseas.
