An email to Miranda July kickstarts an amusing road trip in this Canadian quasi-doc. When a Québécois filmmaker decides her creative practice needs a fresh start, she emails Miranda July out of the blue and, before getting any response, drives to Los Angeles with her cinematographer (Isabelle Stachtchenko, the film’s actual cinematographer). More than just a travelogue, Sophie Bédard Marcotte’s film is a playful take on documentary clichés (landscape film, op doc, the ‘cowboy film’) and a gently moving film about creative partnerships. _“Combining techniques of video installation art and documentary investigation, L.A. Tea Time is more than just a journey to meet a hero, or a journey to find one's self; it's a subtle process of finding the means to make sense of all the weird ideas we have rattling around our brains.” - Shelagh Rowan-Legg, Screen Anarchy _ Directed by Sophie Bédard Marcotte | 82 minutes | 15+ | Australian Premiere Country: Canada Year: 2019 Language: French, English
