“I want to be truthful to the materials I am working with, and would
like the piece to reflect the joy of making. I have always been drawn
to the Eastern Sensibilities of traditional and contemporary art,
especially ceramic art. As a Westerner my traditions are much closer
to the Bauhaus, than anything else. These pieces are telling the tales
of enjoying the immediacy of working with clay, while form follows
function.” – SZILVIA GYORGYArtist Biography: Szilvia Gyorgy was
born in Budapest. She arrived in Sydney in 1989. She has been
practicing sculpture since 2001 in its various manifestations. She is
specially drawn to the overlap between art, sculpture and its residual
function as design. Her primary medium of choice is porcelain, but
loves to experiment with ideas involving various other materials.
