Bel a cappella Artistic and Musical Director leads the Willoughby
Symphony Orchestra and Choir in a stunning concert of uplifting choral
works. From the heavenly music of George Dyson’s masterful
Hierusalem, a setting of 16th-century poetry depicting a glittering
Paradise, to Estonian composer Arvo Pärt’s eye-wateringly beautiful
setting of the Latin Te Deum text, which brought to mind for the
composer the “immeasurable serenity imparted by a mountain
panorama”, this is music that transcends the physical world. Holy
Dreaming, by Willoughby Symphony Orchestra’s composer-in-residence
for 2020, Alice Chance, is a musical meditation on the words of A
Thanksgiving for Australia by Reverend Lenore Parker, the first
Aboriginal person to be ordained as a Deacon in the Anglican Church,
while violinist Maria Lindsay joins the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra
to perform the Violin Concerto written for her by Australian icon,
pianist and bandleader, the late Tommy Tycho.
