THE 10 BUILDING BLOCKS THAT RAISE RESILIENT KIDS
Although the world seems to have changed a lot since many of us were
children ourselves, we know that what our kids actually need to grow
up happy, healthy, strong, kind and resilient has not changed at
all. Maggie explores her practical model of 10 building blocks that
will help you raise resilient kids. This model is based on ancient
wisdom, modern research and a healthy dose of common sense. Maggie
will explore key aspects of building resilience in children including
exploring:
* The role of play in developing social, emotional, cognitive and
physical competencies
* How to build appropriate life skills to give children confidence
and competence at various stages of development
* The importance of firm, consistent boundaries and how to establish
and maintain them
* How stress impacts our children and how to lessen its impact in
our chaotic world
KAREN YOUNG, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
HOW TO BUILD COURAGE AND RESILIENCE IN CHILDREN
Resilience happens in relationships and as a parent you have a
profound ability to build resilience in your child. Parents can, quite
literally, strengthen a child's brain to be braver and more
resilient.
Karen has a remarkable ability to translate the science of psychology
into language that can help us all understand how a young brain works
and has a wealth of practical advice and tools to share to enable us
to help our kids to find their brave.
Courage and resilience are vital qualities that help children adapt in
the face of adversity and challenge, and give them the confidence move
towards life-giving opportunities. Karen will discuss why resilience
is so important, and how to nurture these essential qualities in our
children including:
*
Understanding the brain side of building courage in kids
*
How to strengthen the brain towards resilience
*
The importance of relationships in cultivating resilience
*
How anxiety is a really normal part of growing up, and what
age-appropriate anxiety looks like

DITCH THE LABELS AND FIND YOUR PARENTING STYLE
Helicopter, lawnmower, free-range, snow-plough — parenting labels
seem to be everywhere. But they’re often negative, judgmental and
unhelpful to both parents and children.
Warren will walk you through a more productive approach to parenting
styles – one that involves adapting your style according to your
child’s needs.
Parenting isn’t just about what you do. Children themselves bring to
the table a set of characteristics that impact on the way you parent.
This is known as their temperament. It matters – a lot. And it’s
what makes them different and special.
Getting to know and accept your child’s temperament can help you
better understand them and use parenting strategies that work for you
both. Join Warren for this lively and practical discussion that will
give you a fresh new perspective on how you and your child connect.
