The MAKERS PLAY LAB SUMMER PROGRAM OFFERS A SERIES OF WORKSHOPS FOR
YOUNG MAKERS TO PLAY, Design, Code + Create in the January HOLIDAYS!
About this Event During the three stand alone workshops, MAKERS WILL
DEVELOP PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS AND CREATIVE CONFIDENCE AS THEY EXPLORE
ADVANCED STEAM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Art. Maths) concepts
through hands-on design and digital challenges. Advanced coders will
be offered challenging projects to meet their skill set. The projects
on offer change each workshop to avoid repeat for MAKERS WHO HAVE
ATTENDED BEFORE. Age Suitability: Children aged between 5 - 13 MAKERS
PLAY LAB FACILITATORS ARE QUALIFIED TEACHERS WHO WILL DIFFERENTIATE
THE PROJECT SKILL LEVEL BASED ON THE DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS OF THE
CHILDREN. Workshop numbers are capped at 12 children with 2 adults to
ensure quality learning experiences and one on one assistance as
needed. Time: 10:30am - 3.30pm Drop off: Parents are to bring children
into the Green Square library and through to the Tower, you can drop
off and collect children to the following locations listed below.
Signing in and out is required each day and parents are not required
to stay for the duration of the workshop. Parking: There is fifteen
minute parking on the plaza outside the library (or 2 hour parking on
nearby Ebsworth St) Play time: Play is scheduled throughout the day
with open green spaces, sports equipment and court space. Children are
not required to bring devices but can bring something small to play
with during the breaks like a ball, cards or a book. MAKERS PLAY LAB
WORKSHOP DETAILS DAY 1: Monday 20 January: Game Design - Level 3
(Computer Labs) MAKERS WILL EXPLORE GAMIFICATION CONCEPTS THROUGH
PLAYING, designing and coding basic video games including racing,
platform, launching, and more using visual PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE.
MAKERS WILL LEARN ABOUT ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT BOARDS AND CONDUCTIVE
MATERIALS AS THEY CREATE THEIR OWN CARDBOARD GAME CONTROLLER TO PLAY
THEIR GAME. Day 2: Tuesday 21 January: Makey Machines - Level 3
(Computer Labs) MAKERS WILL EXPLORE MUSICAL NOTES AND PATTERNS AS THEY
COMPOSE AND CREATE AN INTERACTIVE SOUND MACHINE USING CODE. They will
use animation, record music and use beatbox sounds to create a
cardboard sound machine controlled by an electronic circuit board.
MAKERS WILL LEARN ABOUT SIMPLE CIRCUITS AND DIGITAL SYSTEMS. Day 3:
Wednesday 22 January: Lego Robotics Level 5 (Anything Room) MAKERS
WILL EXPLORE STEM CONCEPTS THROUGH BUILDING, creating and coding
innovative solutions to design challenges using lego robotics and
visual PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE. They will work through a series of guided
projects structured to ignite curiosity, helping MAKERS DEVELOP
ESSENTIAL COMMUNICATION, creativity, collaboration, and critical
thinking-skills in a fun and exciting way. MAKERS CAN CHOOSE THEIR
ROBOTICS DESIGN CHALLENGE FROM A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS. What to bring:
Children are to bring morning tea, lunch and a water bottle. All meals
must be nut free. Food purchasing facilities are unavailable during
the day. What to wear: Children are required to wear closed shoes and
bring a hat. Please apply sunscreen prior to the workshop if needed.
Special requirements: If your child has a specific medical need,
please provide us with a copy of a current medical action plan and
instructions together with written permission for administering
medication if required, inclusive of epipen and asthma puffers. Cost
of each workshop: $100 per workshop using the Creative Kids Voucher or
Online Card Payment. Workshops are sold separately to offer
flexibility. Ticket purchases must be finalised and paid in full
through Eventbrite prior to the event. Cancellations and refunds are
not available, tickets may be transferred to another child at the
