THE IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE INVESTING : JENN-HUI TAN; GLOBAL HEAD OF
STEWARDSHIP & SUSTAINABLE INVESTING FOR FIDELITY INTERNATIONAL
In the years since the 2008 global financial crisis, society’s
threshold for tolerating bad corporate behaviour has evaporated. Today
clients expect fund managers, as the stewards of their capital, to
steer companies towards the right business decisions.
During this session, Jenn-Hui Tan will explore the importance of
sustainable investing in today’s society and the impact it can have
on both social and environmental issues the world is currently facing
including climate change. Jenn will also look at Fidelity
International’s comprehensive and robust approach to sustainable
investing including the recent introduction of a proprietary
sustainability ratings system, Fidelity Sustainability Ratings.
Fidelity International is a global asset manager with funds under
management of US$339bn.

THE LANDSCAPE OF ESG RATINGS: DAN DAUGAARD; DEPUTY HEAD OF
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE, CENTRE FOR CORPORATE
SUSTAINABILITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL FINANCE
ESG ratings have become a key and discriminating element of the SRI
funds management industry. Ratings are now produced by investment
managers internally as well as by independent external agents. There
is evidence that internal ESG analysis is appealing to investors. In
contrast, there is increasing cynicism of external ratings.
Dan reviews the landscape of ESG ratings agencies. By reviewing the
purposes and value of external ratings, there are distinct lessons
which can inform and improve the services of external agents as well
as the ratings generated internally by investment managers.
