Growth in mass TIMBER BUILDINGS CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD WITH
SEVERAL COUNTRIES COMPETING FOR THE TITLE OF WORLD'S TALLEST TIMBER
BUILDING. Presently, Canada is the leader with "Brock Commons" an 18
storey wooden dormitory at the University of British Columbia.
Architect Anders Berensson has proposed a "Tratoppen" a 40 storey
residential building in Stockholm. Japan has proposed to build the
World's tallest TIMBER CONSTRUCTION WITH A 70 (350 metres) storey
wooden skyscraper in Tokyo.
Here in AUSTRALIA, Bates Smart have set the benchmark with 25 King
Street Brisbane, the world's tallest commercial building made from
TIMBER. The 10 storey commercial tower has recently opened and is the
embodiment of modern architecture with a commitment to CLT and to the
principles of improving occupant health and wellbeing through
sustainable building design.

TANIA GORDON, ASSOCIATE, BATES SMART
Tania Gordon is a specialist in the coordination of large scale
commercial and residential projects, leading this work across phases
from design intent through to built completion. Most recently, she led
the delivery of 25 King Street in Brisbane. The project is the
world’s tallest engineered timber commercial building, setting a new
precedent for sustainable mid-scale office buildings. She also led
the delivery of the Vibe Airport Hotel in Canberra. The project has
received numerous prestigious awards, including the AIA Commercial
Architecture Award and the AIA National Award for Interior
Architecture.
TOBY HODSDON, STRUCTURAL ENGINEER, ARUP
Toby has over 14 years’ experience in the design, construction and
maintenance of building structures. He specialises is in the field
of engineered timber, having several glulam structures to his name and
an early adopter of CLT in Queensland. He also has experience of
designing with other sustainable building materials such as rammed
earth and lime concrete.
