Songwriting + Production Short Course (JMC Sydney)

4 DAY COURSE Times: 9:30am - 4:30pm Monday 18th January - Thursday 21st January 2021 Prices: $360 10% Early Bird Discount: $324 (Valid until 11:59pm, December 21st 2020) JMC will be providing the opportunity for Songwriters, Producers and Instrumentalists to work together in small groups and as individuals to write, record and mix an original song. On the last day of the Short Course the completed songs will be played to a panel of industry professionals who will provide feedback on the final song. DAY 1: INTRODUCTION TO SONGWRITING SONG ANALYSIS, HARMONIC PROGRESSIONS, FORM, GROOVE. _Morning Session - Classroom_ Introduction to concepts of songwriting: * Form/Structure how these are applied to pop songwriting * Melody and Harmony how these work together _Afternoon Session Classroom / Rehearsal Rooms_ * Lyrics: concepts, lyrical hooks, lyrical development * Groove: writing to a groove, how does melody change based on groove? DAY 2: WORKING WITH LOGIC PRO / ABLETON LIVE AS A SONGWRITING TOOL LOOPS, RHYTHM SECTION. _Morning Session MIDI Labs_ Fundamentals of using Ableton Live: * Structuring a session * Using Logic Pro / Ableton Live functions * MIDI mapping _Afternoon Session MIDI Labs_ Ableton Live as a Songwriting Tool: * Using loops and samples to create textures over which to map a melody and lyrics * Using loops and samples to create originality * Using loops and samples to diversify and create new form and structure within a pop song DAY 3: REHEARSE AND RECORD _Morning Session MIDI Labs_ * Recording audio using Ableton Live * Arranging, editing and manipulating recorded audio _Afternoon Session Rehearsal Rooms_ * Arranging for Live Band - enhancing original tracks * Recording with Live Band - recording basics DAY 4: MIXING + FEEDBACK _Morning Session MIDI Labs_ * Mixing Fundamentals * Mixing _Afternoon Session_ * Playback of tracks * Feedback from panel SHORT COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND DETAILS: * All participants must be going into school grades 9-12 in 2021 or have just completed grade 12 in 2020. * All Short Courses will be held at JMC Academy Sydney: 561 Harris St, Ultimo, NSW. * Short Courses will run during January 2021. * Price of Short Course includes lunch and light snacks for each participant. * All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation featuring details of the Short Course they have completed. This Certificate can be included in the participants resume. * JMC Academy reserves the right to cancel any course.
