Co-authors of the review for the Royal Commission into Institutional
Responses to Child Sexual Abuse of contemporary scientific research on
complainant’s memory present research highlights for forensic and
legal practitioners. The review offered an empirical basis to assist
police, courts, legal professionals and juries to evaluate memories of
childhood sexual abuse. The findings apply to cases of child sexual
abuse as well as other matters where memory is crucial evidence in
legal settings.Speakers:
Jane Goodman-Delahunty is a Research Professor at Charles Sturt
University and member of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Trained in law and experimental psychology she is author of over 200
scholarly books and articles. She recently led three projects for the
Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Mark Nolan is a Professor at the Australian National University
College of Law where he teaches and researches criminal law and
procedure, social psychology, legal psychology, and military
discipline law. He works closely with the National Judicial College of
Australia designing judicial education programs.
Dr Evianne L. van Gijn-Grosvenor is a Project and Research Officer at
Macquarie University. Trained in forensic psychology at the University
of Cambridge, her research has focused on understanding the grooming
process of internet sexual predators and on offenders’ grooming
processes according to accounts of child sexual abuse victims.
The ANZAPPL NSW BRANCH AGM will be held prior to the presentation from
6:00-6:30pm.
The presentation is scheduled to start at 6:45pm and will conclude at
7:45pm.
