Tony Hawk is known for being the world’s most famous skateboarder,
but there’s more to this master of the half-pipe than meets the eye.
He is the gold standard of the devil-may-care skater dude
archetype, but elevating the world of skateboarding from a grungy
subculture to a thriving extreme sports empire has taken business
savvy, charisma, and an unrelenting quest for success that defies any
skate park stereotypes. His ascent as a pro skater has made Hawk a
major entrepreneur, a prolific philanthropist, and even a video game
character. He’s also managed to add fatherhood to his list of
achievements for good measure. Hawk will be sharing his remarkable
story in his first-ever Q&A on Australian shores on April 14 at the
Factory Theatre. Fans will hear the details of his career highlights
in his own words: how he got his start in the skating world, his
social media stoushes, and how he conquered the most difficult stunt
in skateboarding – the infamous two-and-a-half revolution aerial
showstopper known as ‘the 900’. Hosted by Aussie TV personality
Danny Clayton, the night will also feature a performance by the aptly
named Birdman: or the Unexpected Virtue of a Tony Hawk Pro Skater
Cover Band. Superfans will also be able to access VIP meet-and-greet
packages, which include premium seating and a skateboard deck signed
by Hawk himself.
