A special Film in REVOLT SCREENING OF A UNIQUE YOUTUBE COLLAGE ABOUT
SLENDERMAN, followed by a panel on video editing and filmmaking.
Static Vision and Film in REVOLT ARE PROUD TO PRESENT A SPECIAL
SCREENING OF DAN SCHOENBRUN'S FANTASTIC SLENDERMAN VIDEO ESSAY, A
SELF-INDUCED HALLUCINATION, followed by a panel on video editing and
filmmaking hosted by festival programmers Conor Bateman (whose video
essays _Runtime_ and _Hollow Jungle_ were featured on Sight and
Sound's "best video essays of 2019" list) and Felix Hubble. Tickets
are heavily discounted for attendees under the age of 25.
Social media and digital folklore intertwine in this unique
exploration of collective delusion and the Slenderman mythos. An
assemblage of fractured YouTube clips - with sources ranging from
corporate news services to virtually unknown vloggers - charts the
impact of the infamous creepypasta's reach both online and, more
disturbingly, in reality. Unsettling and often hilarious, Schoenbrun's
documentary challenges us to consider how our personal experience
influences our understanding of authority and truth on the internet.
_"...a quietly ambitious marvel of editing, one that attempts to
locate the contours of a new narrative structure within the cacophony
of the internet. Yet for all its timeliness, its power lies within
something much more elemental: the human need to tell stories." -
