EXSITU LAUNCH & Panel - "Protecting values and identity as we age -
what you need to know". ExSitu Launch
Join the ExSitu team for their launch in Tamworth with the support of
the UNE SMART Region Incubator. After winning RISE 2019, the ExSitu
founders Rebecca and April, decided it would make perfect sense to
come back to the region in 2020 to launch their incredible platform.
Hear about their platform, their plans for the workshop (taking place
the following day) and hear from an incredible panel of passionate
experts leading the charge to ensure all people can help communicate
their core values as they age.
Our Panel
Professor Rod McClure, Dean – Faculty of Medicine and Health
University of New England
Professor McClure has clinical experience in emergency medicine, a PhD
in injury epidemiology, specialist training in public health medicine,
director roles of research institutes, and management experience in
the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This has been
enhanced by a number of opportunities over the years that broadened
his perspective on Medical practice. Rod is now focused on
facilitating education, research and practice opportunities for
students, colleagues, and communities.
Professor Christine Jorm, Director - New South Wales Regional Health
Partners
Professor Christine Jorm is the Director of NSW Regional Health
Partners, an NHMRC accredited Centre for Innovation in Regional
Health. The role of the Centre is to accelerate the translation of
research into practice to improve regional and rural health. The
Centre is supported by its eight partners (HNELHD, CCLHD, MNCLHD,
Calvary Mater, UON, UNE, HMRI), the NSW Ministry of Health and the
Medical Research Future Fund.
Nicole Turnbull, Principal Solicitor - Turnbull Legal Solutions
Nicole’s experience has predominantly been in the areas of Family
Law, Wills/Estates, Conveyancing and Criminal Law. Practising in these
areas has meant Nicole has developed a keen sense of understanding her
clients, connecting with her clients in their time of need and
explaining the relevant law in a way that is easy to digest. Nicole
appreciates that when client’s seek out a Lawyer for advice in these
specialised areas, it is during a time in their lives when they need
more support and guidance than simply advice on the relevant law.
Tia Christenson, Carer speaking from personal experience
Tia is a full time working mum and wife who also cares for her mum,
Deb. As a result of Deb’s chronic illnesses, both Tia and her
younger sister have held power of attorney and enduring guardianship
for their mother since their early twenties.
In 2019 Deb was in ICU with pneumonia, and a decision had to be made
about whether or not to “switch the machine off”. Deb battled
through and survived, and as a result Tia is passionate about the
importance of early conversations.
Sophie Bailey, Dementia Consultant at the Dementia Centre -
HammondCare
Sophie is a registered Nurse, Dementia Consultant and a Mum working
across the New England and North West. After a career in aged care,
Sophie is a great advocate for conversations as we age, particularly
ensuring decisions are made that protect ones values and identity.
About ExSitu
ExSitu have established themselves from within the aged care sector.
They have built a reflective interactive platform to help people
communicate their core values. The platform translates this
information into clinical documents such as Advance Care Plans, to
allow a person’s care to be guided by their values, rather than just
their clinical needs. Last year ExSitu won the national award for
improving consumer choice in aged care for their work across the East
coast, and they are excited to be launching in the New England area.
Launch and Workshop
Join the ExSitu team and SRI at UNE Tamworth for the launch and panel
on Tuesday 3 March from 6-8pm and then the Ex-Situ workshop on
Wednesday 4 March from 9am to 12pm (see workshop links).

We encourage allied health professionals, legal and medical
professionals, health, disability and aged care providers, financial
