_OUR INVENTORS LAB SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM WILL SEE PRIMARY SCHOOL
STUDENTS FROM ACROSS BRISBANE COMING TOGETHER FOR ONE ACTION PACKED
DAY OF DESIGNING, PROTOTYPING AND BUILDING THEIR OWN PRODUCTS AND
BUSINESS. _Learn what it takes to build your product in just one day.
Join us at the Junior Inventors Lab where you’ll be working with
engineers and entrepreneurs to prototype products and build businesses
over the school holidays.
Working with an expert team of facilitators, students will be
challenged to design and prototype their own product followed by
building a business around that product to ensure they have a business
and product ready to pitch to a panel of judges.
Throughout the program students will also be learning from startup
founders, product designers and engineers as they participate in mini
masterclasses and workshops. Students will be learning about tools
such as 3D design and 3D printing, microcontrollers, business model
canvases and pitching templates.
Students will have the option in the program to either work
independently or in a group as they first learn about business and
product design by reverse engineering their favourite products and
brands before then being challenged to design and build their own.
Our Junior Inventors program has been designed for driven and
passionate students wanting to learn about technology, innovation,
product design and business. Open to students in grade 4-6, no prior
experience is required and we ask that students come with an open mind
and a willingness to learn.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
_WHAT DO STUDENTS NEED TO BRING?_
We ask that students bring their own morning tea and lunch as well as
a device (laptop or tablet) if possible. We will have iPads for
students to borrow, but if they would be more comfortable working on
their own laptop or tablet we would recommend they bring theirs. We
will be providing all equipment for the students to use over the day
as well as some snacks throughout the program.
HOW DO I GET TO THE VENUE?
Our Inventors Lab program will be held at the Fishburners Coworking
space in Queen Street Mall, Brisbane. Access to the venue is through
the Old Regent Theatre Information Centre on Queen Street Mall. The
venue is a short walk from Central Train Station as well as a number
of bus interchanges including King George Square, Adelaide Street and
Queen Street Mall. There are also pick up/drop off zones on Edward and
Adelaide Street as well as paid parking in Wintergarden and the Myer
Centre.
WILL STUDENTS BE WORKING ALONE OR IN GROUPS?
Students will have the option of either working by themselves or in
groups that they are able to choose. We will have a series of
challenges throughout the camp that will allow students to mix groups
but it will be up to the students to choose their own group.
PICK UP AND DROP OFF TIME?
Our program will be running from 9am - 3pm but we will have the option
for students to arrive from 8:30am and depart by 4pm if they wish to
arrive early/stay late.
WHAT SKILLS DO STUDENTS NEED?
This program doesn’t require students to have any prior experience
and all we ask is that students are willing and eager to learn. We
will be teaching students about business, product design, 3D design
and pitching and we are able to cater for students that have advanced
knowledge on these topics to students that are working with these
topics for the first time.
