Professor Zeidan (Black Belt BJJ)
I am Zeidan a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black belt, born in Sao Paulo SP -
Brazil and raised in South Brazil, Florianopolis city. I have started
Jiu-Jitsu in 2004 at the age of 16 in a very traditional gym under the
Gracie Family named Rillion Gracie Gym. At that time there weren’t a
lot of Black Belts teaching in Brazil, So I started taking my classes
under the tuition of Master Claudio Almeida Couto Arrais. He was the
first black belt under Rillion Gracie in the south Brazil.
I fought several competitions when I was white and blue belt, and as
every competitor, I have won and lost some competitions. Back on that
day, I can`t even remember properly, the rules were a bit different
and the competitions were not organised at all. I believe, it was a
moment of Jiu-Jitsu, where although the things were a bit “wild”
and “rough” inside the competitions, it was still very pleasant to
share that time fighting and having fun with my friend. I have
uncountable stories about that time.
As I was still at school age I was sharing my training routine between
studies and the exams to get in public universities in brazil. So, I
only started taking things serious in 2010, when I was a purple belt.
I remember participating of all the local competitions, but mostly 2
big international tournaments that we had at that time - The South
Brazilian Championship and The International South American
Championship. I fought in 2010 and 2011 as a purple belt. Both times I
got 3rd place in my weight division (middle heavyweight – 88,300kg
with kimono). The 3rd place fight in 2010, was against Paulo Myiao a
well-known high competitional fighter nowadays. Also, in 2011 I got a
few hard injuries. I did my collateral ligament on the right knee and
I got a herniated disk removed in the same year. In the end of 2011 I
earned my brown belt. I remember I had crutches on my graduation day,
but even so, It was amazing. In 2012, I was sharing my MBA work time
and training jiu-jitsu which was very hard. I recall taking strength
and conditioning classes that used to start 10:30pm. In 2014 I earned
my black belt after a lot of hard work. Also, in the same year I
joined a local tournament named state of Santa Catarina Jiu-Jitsu Cup,
in which I got 1st place after 4 hard fights in the heavyweight
(94,300kg) category.
In 2015 I joined Abu Dhabi Educational Consul (ADEC) project in UAE,
and though I had been teaching jiu-jitsu before, it was the first time
in my life I got my living from the sport. I was also the head coach
of the Al Ruwais Jiu-Jitsu Club in Abu Dhabi. Later in 2017, I got
assigned to train the Abu Dhabi Police Officers at the Al Jimi Police
Officers Club and to teach the Nacional Army Service in Sweihan
Military Complex in Abu Dhabi.
I love training and teaching jiu-jitsu, however the most valuable
lesson that the sport has shown me was making friends and having fun.
And, this is the main Brazilian jiu-jitsu spirit, having a nice time
with friends, gaining self-respect, confidence and preparing not only
for a competition but for life.
BJJ for life OSSSS
