Research Institute forum on COVID Vaccination in Children and Young
People. Our expert speakers will present on evidence based research
around recommendations for children globally, disease burden from
COVID in children, SA analysis around vaccine uptake, clinical trials
of COVID in children and adolescents and the proposed rollout in South
Australia. OUR SPEAKERS Professor Helen Marshall , Senior Medical
Practitioner and Director, Vaccinology and Immunology Research Trials
Unit, Women's and Children's Hospital / NHMRC Practitioner Fellow and
Professor in Vaccinology, Adelaide Medical School, University of
Adelaide / Deputy Director and Research Leader, Robinson Research
Institute, University of Adelaide COVID and kids Professor Helen
Marshall MBBS DCH MPH MD is a clinician researcher and NHMRC
Practitioner Fellow with specialist training in child health, public
health and vaccinology having completed a Bachelor of Medicine and
Surgery, Doctorate of Medicine, Master of Public Health and Diploma in
Child Health and the Advanced Vaccinology Course at the Pasteur
Merieux Institute, France. She holds the position Professor in
Vaccinology in the Adelaide Medical School and is the Deputy Director
of the Robinson Research Institute at the University of Adelaide,
Consultant in Vaccinology, at the Womens and Childrens Hospital, South
Australia. She is an international leader in vaccines and vaccine
preventable diseases. She was awarded the NHMRCs 10 of the Best
research projects nationally and the SA Science Award for Excellence
in Research for the Public Good and SA Science Award for Excellence in
Research Collaboration. In 2020 she received the Inspiring South
Australian Women award, Australia Day Council, South Australia.
Professor Jonathan Craig , Vice President and Executive Dean & Matthew
Flinders Distinguished Professor, College of Medicine and Public
Health, Flinders University Clinical trials of COVID in children and
adolescents Professor Jonathan Craig is an internationally recognised
clinician and scientist and has made a significant contribution to the
clinical research landscape in the prevention, identification,
management and treatment of chronic kidney disease, particularly in
relation to children and in Indigenous communities. He has led the
formation of state, national and international networks to conduct
high-quality, relevant trials in children and has been instrumental to
the development and implementation of best-practice methods and
guidelines relating to chronic kidney disease in Australia and
globally. His current advisory roles include member of the National
Health and Medical Research Councils Health Translation Advisory
Committee, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, Medical
Services Advisory Committee and Commonwealth Department of Health Life
Savings Drug Program. He is a past member of the WHO expert review
panel for global strategy and plan of action on public health,
innovation and intellectual property, a past chairman of the Steering
Group of the Cochrane Collaboration, and a past member of the Expert
Advisory Group for the Structural Review of NHMRCs Grant Program. Dr
Emily Kirkpatrick , Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Chief Public
Health Officer, Department for Health and Wellbeing, SA Health
Paediatric COVID vaccine rollout in South Australia: Ensuring an
evidence-based, yet a practical approach to the vaccine rollout in SA
Dr Emily Kirkpatrick BMed MMed MPH DCH GCHPE CHIA MAICD FRACGP is the
Deputy Chief Medical Officer and a Deputy Chief Public Health Officer
at SA Health, focusing on the COVID-19 response with her focus on
quarantine and vaccination. Emily has completed a Master of Public
Health and subsequently a Master of Medicine, with her research
focusing on cancer screening programs and preventative healthcare. She
is fellow of the RACGP and a practising GP. Her public health and
population health knowledge have been invaluable in her strategic
advice to SA Health & GPs during the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular,
she currently is the chief clinical lead of the SA Health quarantine
programme and co-chairs the SA Health COVID vaccine clinical advisory
group. Emily is passionate about patient-centred care outcomes using
data, metrics and patient reported outcome measures to drive decision
