The Australian Government is running a Royal Commission to find out
about violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation against people living
with disability. Purple Orange has been asked by the Royal Commission
to do some research to help them to better understand, and better
communicate with, a diverse range of people living with
disability. This focus group is part of a series of discussions Purple
Orange will hold with people living with disability in Adelaide, Mount
Gambier and Kadina during January and February 2020.
This focus group is all about language. We want to find out how people
living with disability understand and talk about violence, abuse,
neglect and exploitation. What do these terms mean? Would you use
different words to talk about these issues?
We will keep the conversation general and will not ask you about your
personal experiences. You do not need to have experienced violence,
abuse, neglect or exploitation to take part.
A counsellor will be present at each session if you need someone to
talk to. We will do our very best to meet any accessibility needs,
including interpreters if required.
Everything you say within the focus groups will be treated
confidentially – we will not tell anyone outside our Purple Orange
team what you say. We will record the focus group, but the recording
will not be shared outside our research team and will be destroyed
once the research is complete. The findings of the research will be
reported to the Royal Commission, with a final report made public, but
you won’t be identified in any reporting.
THIS FOCUS GROUP IS FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITY AND WILL BE HELD
IN MOUNT GAMBIER. You need to register if you want to participate. If
there are no spaces available, take a look at the other focus groups
we are running to see if one is suitable for you.
This focus group will run for 90 minutes. You will receive a $60 gift
card to thank you for taking part. We can cover travel costs such as
local taxi fares if you need.
If you have any questions or need help to register, please contact
Rebecca Dowd at JFA Purple Orange by calling 08 8373 8312 or
emailing rebeccad@purpleorange.org.au.
