Sailing has a 182 year history at the ROYAL HOBART REGATTA, being one
of the inaugural events in 1838. The magnificent trading ketches
featured prominently for more than 60 years, and from the 1880s the 28
footers such as Clutha, Volant, America, Caress, Ailsa and Fairlie
competed for significant prizemoney.In 1915 Sir Thomas Lipton donated
a magnificent trophy for the One-Design Class, which by 1925 had led
to the establishment of A Class - legendary yachts Weene, Alwyn,
Grayling, Yeulba, Ozone, Ninie and Vanity dominated the Lipton Cup
until the 1940s.
Many of Tasmania's most famous yachts have won this prestigios event
over the years.
Races available on 9th February 2020 include:
1:30-5:15pm Brierley Marine Chandlery 2000
(2 Divisions - spinnaker) Prizes totalling $1,000 available for each
division, part cash and part in-kind.
Division 1 yachts will once again be competing for the Sir Thomas
Lipton Trophy in 2020.
1:30-5:15pm Dragons (Prizes to be advised)
1:40-5:15pm Co-Op Toyota 1000 Classic
(2 Divisions - non-spinnaker) Cash prizes totalling $500 available
for each division.
1:40-5:15pm Mottle 33 Cup (Prizes to be advised)
6:00-7:45pm Galapagos Duck 700 Twilight Race
(2 Divisions - non-spinnaker) Cash prizes totalling $350 available
for each division.
THE COURSE
The start/finish line will be between the committee boat and an orange
inflatable buoy approximately abeam of the committee boat, which will
be anchored in the vicinity of a line between the Regatta Pavilion and
Rosny Point.

Mark J. Yellow pyramid (permanent mark) directly off Government
House, approx. 150 Metres off shore, as shown on the course
card.

No Entry Fee.
All boats must have at least $5 Million third party insurance, changes
must be notified to Club Secretary.
Entries may be accepted from yachts at the absolute discretion of the
sailing committee. The acceptance of an entry of any yacht shall not
create a precedent for the consideration of an entry by any other
yacht. I agree to be bound by the Australian Sailing racing rules of
Sailing 2017/2020 and by all other rules that govern the event and I
acknowledge that Rule 4 Decision to race, places the sole
responsibility for deciding to participate in a race or to continue
racing is mine alone. All yachts racing must be MAST + Cat 7 as per AS
special regulations.
