Understanding and managing workplace psychosocial risks to MENTAL
HEALTH IN THE UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENT. This workshop is designed to
assist managers to understand actions employers can take that may
reduce the risk of mental illness onset or exacerbation that can occur
as a result of employee exposure to chronic or acute work stressors.
Participants will be presented with research evidence related to work
stress and mental health and develop an understanding of job design
and work environment factors that are likely to be included in
psychosocial risk assessments. Activities will focus on reviewing
psychosocial risk assessment tools and guidelines, what might
constitute 'reasonable steps to assess and control' these risks, and
discuss change management strategies for improving how the University
approaches this important occupational health and safety task.
