Mock Citizens Assembly #3 “EATING CARBON: Building soil, building an agricultural future; REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE IN THE CLIMATE CRISIS” Disrupting politics of fear and building a politics of hope by removing barriers to participatory, deliberative democracy, increasing representativeness and trust. We acknowledge that First Nations people have been taking care of their country since time immemorial, are some of the first and worst affected by climate change and are leading powerful climate action. As Country has deeply changed due to colonisation and now due to global heating, including the unprecedented recent bushfires, we acknowledge the trauma and resilience of First Nations peoples. Our heart goes out to all the people who have lost loved ones, seen their homes destroyed and been forced to flee communities, and to the billions of animals and their homes. This mock Citizens’ Assembly is the third of four assemblies looking at how ordinary people can make policy decisions to tackle the climate crisis. As flames engulf our country, it is increasingly clear that politics as usual is failing us. The Coalition of Everyone invites you to experience how we can rebuild democracy. While factory farming has come under fire for its carbon footprint, agriculture can play an important role in drawing down carbon, keeping water on the landscape and feeding the nation. How can policy support a shift to regenerative agriculture? Come and be part of the solution, learn how sortition works and how we can all contribute policy answers to this complex problem.
