Course overview This course is an ideal introduction to automotive
vehicle painting. You will get a basic understanding of paint
techniques and learn how to select and safely use automotive painting
materials, remove paint from panels using emulsion procedures, prepare
panels for top coat painting using primers and putties, apply top coat
solid and metallic colours and cut and polish the finished job.
Learning outcomes You will learn about: * safely handling and
selecting the different types of automotive paint materials * paint
removal using emulsion * preparing a panel or repair for top coat
painting using substrate primers and putties * guide coat application
and sanding techniques * the application of top coat solid and
metallic colours * buffing, polishing and finishing a panel.
Additional information You will not be allowed to bring your own
vehicles into class to work on. However, when your skills are at an
appropriate level you may be allowed to bring certain body panels to
class to work on. The Docklands campus is centrally located with easy
access to public transport and within walking distance to Southern
Cross station. There is no parking available at the campus however
public parking is available within easy walking distance to the
Docklands campus. What you receive at the completion of the course?
You will receive a Statement of Participation on successful completion
of the course. Pre-requisite & eligibility requirements There are no
prerequisites for this course, however, you will need to be
comfortable using power tools, spray equipment and not be allergic to
paint materials and odors. Participant requirements You are required
to provide and wear safety clothing and footwear such as a long sleeve
shirt and pants (preferably overalls) and full covered closed shoes
(preferably work boots or shoes). Personal protective equipment such
as mandatory respirator, eye and hearing protection will be supplied;
however you may bring your own.
