Victorian Government’s Improving Victoria’s kerbside system Workshops   

You are invited to attend the Victorian Government’s Improving Victoria’s kerbside system Workshop Series 2019      The Victorian Government has committed to work with councils and waste and recycling businesses on a major overhaul of the kerbside system to improve the quality and capture of recycled material collected at households.The government wants your feedback on what an optimal kerbside system would look like and how it can be best implemented.      As part of the Recycling Industry Strategic Plan [https://www.environment.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0013/326110/Recycling-Industry-Strategic-Plan.pdf], DELWP and Sustainability Victoria have been investigating potential interventions to improve the quality of recyclable materials collected at households. Some options to be discussed in the workshop are:     * Universal roll out of Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO)   * Standardisation of existing commingled bins    * Separated glass collection   * Separated paper/cardboard collection    * Combinations of these options  DELWP will present some analysis and invite industry and local government to share their views and experiences in order to determine the best approach for an improved kerbside system for Victoria. Some key questions we will be covering in this workshop are:   * What does the optimal kerbside collection system look like and how does that vary across the state?  * What changes to kerbside collection systems are councils already considering or implementing?  * What materials should be targeted as a priority in the reforms?   * What risks will need to be managed in designing and implementing a new system.   We acknowledge that the Melbourne CBD location will not suit everyone.
