Please join the City of Wanneroo community in recognising NAIDOC WEEK
2021 BY ATTENDING THE FLAG RAISING CEREMONY. This CEREMONY WILL
INVOLVE A WELCOME TO COUNTRY, formal Flag RAISING, speeches from
special guests and a dance performance by a local Aboriginal dance
group. Following the conclusion of the CEREMONY PROCEEDINGS, attendees
will have the opportunity to socialise and connect with others in the
community over a light morning tea and a basket weaving workshop. The
Flag Raising Ceremony is a symbol of the respect and appreciation that
the City of Wanneroo has for its local Aboriginal heritage, culture
and community. It provides the City with the opportunity to recognise
the 2021 National NAIDOC Week theme of Heal Country! This theme calls
for all peoples to continue to seek greater protections for Aboriginal
lands, waters, sacred sites and cultural heritage. It invites
non-Aboriginal people to embrace Aboriginal peoples cultural knowledge
and understanding of Country as part of Australias national heritage.
