A TRADITIONAL OWNER WITH A STRONG FAMILY HISTORY OF ANCIENT CUSTOMS
AND TRADITIONS IN PERTH AND KINGS PARK.We commence our walk from the
front of Aspects of Kings Park Gallery Shop as we learn about
Perth’s Aboriginal heritage and sites of cultural
significance from stories passed down through generations.
Taking in the magnificent gardens of Kings Park and spectacular views
overlooking Perth City and the Swan River we share traditional
stories of Whadjuk Country and the history of the Nyungar people in
Perth
With a Welcome to Nyungar Country we explore the Banksia Garden from
an Aboriginal perspective and see the scarred Tuart Trees from Kings
Park’s Aboriginal past and walk the Tuart Lawns.
We visit Pioneer Women’s Memorial place and learn about the
significance of Yorgars (women) there as we walk down the path of
serene water ponds and the Water Gardens.
Enjoying some traditional stories we also learn about medicinal and
bush foods farmed by the Nyungar people in the area.
As we loop back towards our starting pont we walk among the treetops
and enjoy spectacular views of the Perth City skyline and Swan River
over a glass arched bridge (Lotterywest Federation Walkway) suspended
among a canopy of tall eucalypts.
Get hands on with traditional Aboriginal living demonstrations such as
the as the use of grinding stones, ochre paints, bush foods, paperbark
and other seasonal Nyungar activities.
Soak in the fresh air, flora and fauna as our Aboriginal culture is
explained and we look to the future of sharing Aboriginal
cultural awareness with all Australians and visitors to our Country.
