Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse Live at the Backlot (Late Show)

Around The Sound and The BACKLOT PERTH ARE THRILLED TO ANNOUNCE THAT GINA WILLIAMS AND GUY GHOUSE WILL BE RETURNING TO RESTART THE LIVE AT THE BACKLOT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL SERIES ON 26 SEPTEMBER. Gina and Guy started off the series in September 2017 and now, almost exactly three years later theyre back! This multi award-winning duo feature incandescent vocals, guitar brilliance and rare Noongar language. Their music is a celebration of the things we share, not the things that divide. We all understand love and loss; they mean the same in anyone's language. Over many years, Noongar language has been reduced to a whisper; but in the same way the butterfly emerges from the cocoon, we are now witnessing a beautiful renaissance of language through Gina and Guys music. On 13 February 2020, the anniversary of the 2007 apology to the Stolen Generation, Gina and Guy released Koorlanka, the first instalment in a four-work contemporary Noongar song cycle, Kalyakoorl (Forever). Each of the works in the Kalyakoorl cycle is informed by four principles of: Koort (Heart), Moort (Family), Boodja (Land) and Koorlangka (Children/Legacy). Reviewing the album, Around The Sound said that, a core triumph of Koorlangka is that it is simply beautiful music. It will seep into your mind and heart and take hold of your thoughts and emotions whether you want it to or not. Speaking about the Kalyakoorl song cycle they are in the midst of creating, Guy Ghouse said, Once we have released all four albums the cycle will be complete and all the pain and suffering Ginas family and so many thousands of others we feel will not have been in vain as the language not only survives, but it will be held in such high and beautiful regard, with respect and dignity. That is our goal so a greater healing can continue. This is going to be an evening of beautiful music, celebration of language and survival and joining together in song.
