This WORKSHOP IS FOR LANGUAGE TEACHERS WHO WANT TO USE THE Side by Side Competition [https://mltawa.asn.au/litm/sidebyside/] to maximise conversations among STUDENTS IN THE TARGET LANGUAGE. During this 2 hour session we will * explore effective oral communication tasks for a wide range of year levels that link to the WA Curriculum * share ideas for providing language practice and language use opportunities * share tips on recording your students speaking using Flipgrid * show you how to integrate the a Side by Side activity into your existing teaching and learning program The Side by Side Competition [https://mltawa.asn.au/litm/sidebyside/] was innaugurated in 2017 as part of the Languages in the Mainstream project, and resulted in 50 winners across 12 schools, from 10 languages. It involves two students of a similar year level sitting or standing side by side and holding a conversation by asking and answering questions about any topic using familiar language that has recently been explored in class.  At the workshop we will also show teachers how to take part and submit entries for this year's Side by Side Competition.
