What is the Rio Reveillon? Rio Reveillon is Brazil's most important
event after its infamous Rio Carnival. Around two million people come
from all over the world to ring in the New Year and attend a huge New
Year's Eve party held on Copacabana beach. The main draw of the Rio
Reveillon is its impressive fireworks display. About 25,000 tons of
pyrotechnic materials are burned in rafts a few meters off the coast,
creating a stunning display of light and color. The New Year's Eve
celebrations held on Copacabana beach are among the best in the world
so don't miss it! Need to know After midnight, once the fireworks
display has ended, the party continues with multiple music concerts
organized on Copacabana Beach itself. Past performers have included
Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso and Rod Stewart. Did you know? There are
many rites of passage and traditions in Brazil that coincide with the
New Year and to bring in good luck. These include dressing in white,
throwing flowers into the sea and running into the sea to jump three
consecutive waves. For more information on this exciting event, click
