FAQ

1. Is there a trial class?

Yes, to sign up for a free class, go to https://june4edmcode.eventbrite.ca

2. Why do kids need to learn coding?

Computer Coding is becoming the no.1 essential skill in the marketplace. By 2020, over 67% of new jobs in all sectors are related to technology and require a high level of computer coding skills.

Sadly, Alberta school curriculum fails to provide an engaging and interactive learning program to prepare our children to be successful. Without a well-developed computer science foundation, your children may fall behind as they enter middle schools, universities and future job markets.

Teaching young students Teaching young students coding is a lot more than training in a new skill.

Your children will achieve:

  1. Become Creators Using Technology
  2. New Confidence in Problem-solving
  3. Model with Mathematics and Science
  4. Lead in a team and Communicate Effectively

3. What will your kids learn?

CC101 focuses on programming concepts. MIT's block programming platform Scratch, will be used for its ease of snapping blocks of code together instead of memorizing programming lines. This will allow your child to create complex video games, intricate artwork and even control a robot. The first class will introduce the concepts of sequencing and looping. Every student will finish his/her very first interactive computer program by the end of the class. Refreshment will be provided for all parents and students at the end of the class. Future class planning and feedback will be discussed among parents and students.

4. What do I need to bring?

Bring any laptop with wifi capability. Also, bring headphones and a small note book for writing down user name and password.

*Please prepare an user name and password ahead of class

5. Who will teach the class? How many students will the class accept?

A certified teacher will be the main instructor and two other teaching assistants will be helping the class. All our teaching staff are the University of Alberta's Education or Engineering graduates. Each class will accept up to 12 students. We invite either parent to stay for the first 30 minutes on the first class.
