WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Manual materials handling helps give all staff
the skills needed to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury (MSI).
MSIs are one of the highest categories of injury in the continuing
care industry. This course is designed to provide best practice
technique to help staff work more effectively, efficiently and
productively while reducing the overall risk of injury.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
* Identify the early signs and symptoms of a musculoskeletal injury
(MSI) and explain potential impacts.
* Identify manual materials handling related hazards that can lead
to injury.
* Implement methods to reduce the risk of injury based on hazards.
* Know the basics of, and demonstrate the use of, good body
mechanics in relation to manual materials handling.
ACTIVITIES: Theoretical instruction with approximately 2 hours of
hands-on practice.
