Help support our local economy by buying fresh seasonal fruit in larger quantities for perserving or enjoying with family & friends! The Bushel and a Peck program is a great way to get seasonal produce without driving out to the farm - instead our local farms come to the Co-op!

Samsara Fields was conceived by JP Gural and So Young Lee from 2010, after their global research journey conducted in 2008 - 2009, as a response to our planet's peril. They both experienced many issues: poverty, displacement, refugees, the world food crisis, slums, garbage dump communities, post-conflict, legacies of war, poverty, sprawling urbanisation, globalisation, development, and global climate change. From their research, they found organic living to be not an alternative lifestyle choice but an important direction if humanity wants to survive an impending environmental collapse. PRODUCE COMING FROM   Magalas Farm - Waterford, ON

Harry and Helen Magalas established the starting grounds for Magalas Produce Ltd. A 50-acre farm devoted to raising 150 laying hens and four cows. Vegetable production soon followed as with attending the Hagersville Market every Wednesday afternoon. The Magalas’ soon gained contracts with E.D. Smith in Winona and Campbell Soup in Toronto. They grew cucumbers, strawberries and tomatoes (roma and cannery) until the 1980’s the canneries closed down the contracts for Ontario farmers. The farm's focus was switched to fresh vegetables. In 1994 Martin and his wife Cheryl solely took over Magalas Produce Ltd. and expanded the fresh fruit and vegetable production to include strawberries, zucchini, melon (cantaloupe), sweet corn, tomatoes and roma tomatoes. More about their tomatoes.

Wolfgang and Ekkehard’s parents Wilhelm and Barnhild immigrated their family of four children in fall 1981 and settled near New Hamburg, Ontario and have remained there since. Sovereign Farms is family-operated vegetable greenhouse specializing in grape tomatoes by by Wes and Brenda Sovereign. Dedicated to growing environmentally friendly grape tomatoes and other greenhouse veggies, Sovereign Farms uses integrated pest management extensively in their greenhouse. A variety of wasps and mites are established in the greenhouse micro environment to control the unwanted pests. Bumble bees are brought into the greenhouse to assist in the pollination of the flowers.
