of ten immigrant musicians from all over the world and one
metis-Canadian. Created at the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2016 in
Toronto, KUNEs artistic practice captures and recreates the experience
of living in the worlds most diverse city. The musicians come from
places like Iraq, Cuba, Peru, Burkina-Faso and China. The instruments
they play are not often played together: the Iranian Tar and the
Peruvian Cajon, the West African Ngoni and the Chinese Dizi flute. It
is a space in which to remember our roots while being transformed by
our differences. Together KUNE members compose, arrange and perform
music that honors cultural roots and creates connections through
curiosity, experimentation and dialogue. Universal Echoes explores the
four elements of earth and Mother Nature through music. The
compositions were created through the collaborative efforts of Kunés
members and feature music inspired by the group members cultural
experiences.
