Kaeja d’Dance, Toronto’s cutting-edge contemporary dance company, returns to bring professional dance artists together with ordinary citizens to create a truly magical outdoor event in the King East neighbourhood in the heart of Kitchener.
Porch View Dances is an innovative dance festival, engaging members of local communities across Ontario since 2012. Conceived by Karen Kaeja and developed with Allen Kaeja, PVD celebrates through dance the stories that tie our community together. Performed by local non-dancer residents on their porches, and in the front- and back- yards of their own homes.
Choreographers: Karen and Allen Kaeja, Natasha Mansell, and Augustine Wigle of Kitchener-Waterloo’s Contemporary School of Dance.
This year’s PVD will also feature live choral musical accompaniment, arranged and performed by Kitchener-based musician Sarah Pearson.
The audience is guided from dwelling to dwelling, watching the stories of a neighbourhood unfold. The event culminates at the Kitchener Market, where the audience joins in a group dance.
Porch View Dances first came to the King East neighbourhood in June of 2016, welcoming over 200 audience members as they wound their way through the streets. The King East Neighbourhood Association (KENA) was recognized with a Kitchener Festival of Neighbourhoods Arts and Culture Award for the event.
