Welcome to Zuriberg Toastmasters Club!

We meet about three times a month in the gorgeous guildhall of the Blue Monkey restaurant in downtown Zurich.

A place to learn…

Every meeting begins with welcoming our guests, introducing the different roles and the Word of the Day. Then, club members with prepared speeches will be invited to the floor. After this first part of the meeting, we communicate over a delicious dinner prepared by the restaurant.

The second part of the evening is devoted to evaluations and impromptu speaking: All speakers receive feedback by an evaluator and then the flexibility of our mind is challenged by questions that need to be answered of the cuff. Guests are very welcome to participate in this session known as Table Topics.

…in a friendly environment

Did we adhere to the time limits? How often did we use filler words? How was our usage of the English language and did the speech-evaluators point out room for improvement? Questions such as these will be answered by the timer, the ah-counter, the grammarian and the general evaluator.

Come and see for yourself

In our club, you can learn public speaking in a welcoming, friendly environment. What’s more, no other Toastmasters Club in Zurich can boast such a beautiful stage. So come and see for yourself!

Q: Do I need to speak at a club meeting?
A: No. You are not obliged to speak when visiting a club. You may simply be an observer, if you wish so. But we encourage you at least to introduce yourself and to give us your feedback at the end. And if you wish, you can participate in the Table Topics.

Q: Is there a leader or instructor?
A: There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. The club will have elected club officers present and a Toastmaster who facilitates the meeting. By joining a Toastmasters club you will have access to the new digital learning experience of Toastmasters International. At the beginning you will have to choose one Pathway from many options available. Each Pathway has specific objectives with practical projects to acquire and improve the required skills.

Q: Do I have to pay for dinner?
A: Yes, it costs around CHF 25 and it is how we fund the use of the venue. The food is Thai and you can chose from an option with chicken and one that is vegan. We buy a token for dinner before the meeting and a drink if we want to. Soft drinks cost CHF 6.

Q: Why are only few people registering?
A: Our club members use a another meeting management application for Toastmasters clubs. Normally, more than 20 members attending our meetings. In the Meetup RSVP you find normally only the guests.

Q: What is Toastmaster International?
A: Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization with over 16 400 clubs in 141 countries and over 352 000 members. It was founded in 1924 with the purpose of helping members to improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills.

Q: Can anyone become a member?
A: As long as you are at least 18 years old, you can join a Toastmasters Club.

Q: Do you offer also online meetings?
A: Zuriberg Toastmasters Club offers from time to time meetings via Zoom and aims at conducting some of the in person meeting in a hybrid format.
