Programme– Franz Liszt: Transcendental Études, S. 139– Sergej
Rachmaninov: 13 Preludes, Op. 32Boris Giltburg’s recital promises
to be a special experience for the audience: the Israeli pianist of
Russian origin will present himself to the festival public with a
complete performance of Liszt’s Transcendental Etudes, which are
among the greatest challenges for performers in the worldwide piano
literature. Liszt’s monumental work demands not only extraordinary
technical skill, but also the ability to convey the convincing
expressive structure of the individual etudes, which are more like
tone poems than merely virtuosic piano pieces. A similarly
challenging task is the cycle of Thirteen Preludes by Serge
Rachmaninoff, one of the greatest piano virtuosos in history and a
composer who succeeded in his works at giving a uniquely exhaustive
demonstration of the beauty of the piano’s sound. For all fans of
the art of piano playing, Boris Giltburg’s recital is therefore a
must on the schedule of this year’s Dvořák Prague Festival.Dress
