This workshop is an introduction to Theory U - a framework, process and toolbox for transformational change, developed by Otto Scharmer and his team from the Presencing Institute (MIT, Boston).
In short: “Theory U shows how to update the operating code in our societal systems through a shift in consciousness from ego-system to eco-system awareness.”
We’d like to talk about a concept that focuses on the “blind spot” when it comes to change: it’s the inner place, the source from where we as individuals and collectives operate. It means, to create in-depth change we need a different quality of awareness showing up, e.g. in our way of listening. To access a different quality of awareness, Theory U offers a process for individuals and collectives, designed as a learning journey and involving the intelligence of the head, heart and hand. We believe, these aspects are crucial in handling today’s complexity and to find healthier ways of working in our organisations.
And since experience beats a well-designed presentation in terms of learning, we’ll talk a bit about the concept, illustrate the U process and give some insights into tools. However, we’ll also offer a small activity for the group.
About us:
We, Wibke Stegemann and Julia Lehmann, are part of the u.lab Hub Hamburg, a network of ca. 150 changemakers, founded in 2014 and connected to a global community rooted at the Presencing Institute (MIT, Boston). Within the Hub we co-create our own learning journey, guided by the annual MOOC (massive open online course), including in-depth practice and actual projects that aim to bring change in various fields, on an individual or collective level. As an example, a few members founded CoCreatingFuture (CCF), a consulting company that uses the Theory U process and tools to create profound change in organisations.
