Sebastian Thiel and Niko Hellwig talk about:

During our day-jobs it finally became feasible to write development tools in Rust. We imagined how much more powerful those would become if they could interface with Cassandra directly. Even though drivers existed, they didn't meet our own expectations in quality, so we set out to write our own.

Thus we proudly present a Cassandra driver written in Rust, leveraging the Tokio ecosystem to its fullest. With a safety-and-test-first approach we meet highest demands in quality, and thanks to streaming support and zero-copy we do work only when required, bringing highest efficiency.

In our talk we will show you how we did it, and present a digest of our take-aways thus far. You will learn about the basics of asynchronous IO in Rust, as well as Futures, the merits of Docker and Travis-CI, and why composed complex types are a thing of your nightmares.
