Established in 1948, the annual Virginia Highlands Festival in
Abingdon, Virginia, has been hailed as the best art festival in the
state by numerous publications and is a celebration of community and
culture. The ten-day extravaganza features artists displaying their
one-of-a-kind works and decorative and wearable crafts and there are
also traditional fair foods, live musical performances from eclectic
acts and face painting. Artisans come primarily from Virginia,
Tennessee and North Carolina to showcase their crafts. Guests can
browse, shop, enjoy the Festivals live craft demos, and find
one-of-a-kind items for themselves or as gifts. Also there is an
entire park dedicated to kids and family fun where they will be
engaged in interactive magic shows, storytime and hands-on
crafts. There is even a talent show where kids can enter and win
prizes! The Festival, over the past seven decades, has grown in scope
to represent all of Southwest Virginia. Find more information on this
